Miriam Hope Gerlay

August 1, 2021 – September 30, 2021

Miriam Hope Gerlay is best known for her unconventional abstract paintings made from multiple sources of paint and canvas. “I use multiple layers of color to construct my work in order to become shapeshifters,” she has said. “I believe that common materials are the best materials and that art heals the world.” With its emphasis on lines and colors, nonrepresentational with subliminally significant themes, her art is often described as a spiritual response to the world’s chaos Abstract Expressionist paintings. While she launched her career with a feminist show entitled Her in 2016, Gerlay is a native New Mexican who has spent her whole life dedicated to the arts.
